PURPOSE FUNDS
There are several other types of private investment funds besides investment
or trading funds for securities, commodities/futures, and currencies.
We specialize in these types of funds, as it dovetails nicely with our
CPA firm's specialty in the trader tax market.
In additon, we also have expertise in other types of investment funds.
Investors are keenly interested in funds set up to invest in real estate,
private equity and venture capital.
Real estate, both residential and commercial, has skyrocketed in price in the U.S., as well as internationally. Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) flourished during the 1990s and into the 2000s. However, REITs are public securities and they have become very commercial. Learn more about REITs here.
There is a new breed of real estate fund, the private fund similar in
design and operations to a classic hedge fund. We have set up these funds
and are working on some very exciting real estate fund projects around
the world.
Some of our CPAs worked at Ernst & Young's Venture Capital Division,
so we have good knowledge of this market too.
Think of hedge funds as private investment partnerships whose structures
and legal documents can be applied to other types of investments. There
are similar issues about U.S. law versus international law and taxation.
Remember the rule of thumb: if it's a public security, figure that it
is very expensive to form, register, and operate this type of entity,
but if it's a private investment partnership (or LLC), the costs to form,
register, and operate are very reasonable at a fraction of the cost.
Real estate, private equity and venture capital lend themselves well to
smaller private investment companies.
