Consulting on business, registration, accounting, tax and compliance: As you conceive your money management and/or hedge fund business plans, consult with Robert A. Green, CPA (and our other professionals) about your plans. We can tell you the regulatory and registration rules, and address development, tax, accounting, reporting, audit and business strategies. Our focus is your long-term success, not selling you services you don't need. We like the step-by-(successful)-step approach, which often entails starting as a money manager or an incubator fund.

It's very important to figure out your tax plans before you commit to development of your hedge fund or investment management business. Read about some of our special tax strategies for hedge funds and you will see why tax structuring comes first. State tax "nexus" issues are paramount; as your investors and co-managers may be spread out around the country. International tax matters with offshore hedge funds are also complex as non-resident investors and US tax-free entities (pension funds) want to invest in offshore funds. Development: We are very involved in the development process from performing initial consultations to assisting with and monitoring the formation (legal) process. Accounting: Every hedge fund needs to prepare NAV (Net Asset Value) and other accounting reports for their investors; as often as monthly and at a minimum annually. Funds also need to provide investors with annual income tax reports, Form K-1 tax reports along with complex tax instructions.

Our main goal is to tailor our accounting solutions to the very specific needs of our clients; not to force feed standardized services to clients and insist on minimums (like much of our competition). We start with important listening and consultation sessions. Sometimes a client needs specialized accounting software (and we have a few low cost ones) and other times to they don't (like if a client uses prime brokers). Another important point is that our clients usually don’t require the added high-cost services of an “administrator.”

Picture it this way. If you are starting a larger hedge fund and you have (industry) pedigree with plans to successfully raise over $100 million, you will certainly need top shelf providers; including a well-known prime broker, administrator, big-four or other larger accounting firm and large law firm. But, like most of our clients, if you are a start-up or smaller hedge fund, understand that most leading prime brokers will shun your business, administrators will be too expensive (with large minimum fees) and large accounting and law firms may disrespect you (with fees and service). When it comes to hedge funds, it certainly is a ‘tail of two cities.’ Why throw money after providers who don’t really want your business? There is a better way – the GreenTraderFund way!

We can introduce you to boutique prime brokers catering to hedge funds who clear through the big boy prime brokerage firms. So you get the same service but with lower costs and more customer service. We craft your accounting solutions based on the other vendors you chose and we fill in the blanks with great efficiency, effectiveness, low-cost and one of the best trusted brand names in the business.

Tax: We prepare the tax returns for your hedge fund, management company and you individually. GreenTraderTax is a leading CPA firm for traders, funds and advisers throughout the U.S. and we know every state very well. If your fund qualifies for trader tax status, we can deliver trader tax breaks, which your investors will appreciate. Use our professionals to conceive and structure the best tax plans for your fund, get them incorporated into the fund documents, and then use our CPAs to execute those plans during the tax preparation process. Otherwise, if you use different professionals for these jobs (without our coordination), many great tax benefits can fall through the cracks. Our seamless approach works best.

Audit: Because we are very involved with our clients in development, accounting, tax and business matters, we refer our clients to independent outside audit firms. We have excellent relationships with a few audit service firms that offer excellent pricing and service to our clients. In most cases, start-up and smaller hedge funds "self impose" audits on themselves; they can put off audits to a later date.

Compliance and operations: Most hedge funds need a compliance manual and our professionals have the experience and capability to set up your compliance program and help you execute it efficiently and effectively.
